The ACT is an objective measurement of a student’s overall learning and educational development.  Grades in high school courses can be influenced by factors such as extra credit projects, class participation, test retakes and class curves, in addition to test performance. Grades can correlate more to a student’s effort rather than to a mastery of the particular subject area. Therefore, a high GPA will not necessarily translate to a high ACT score. Standardized tests act as an equalizer across the wide variety of high school programs and grading metrics in the country, allowing colleges and universities to compare “apples to apples”.
